Well, what about the other 3 studies in which presumably Champix did not do so well? Since they aren't reported in much detail, it seems that much of what is available about Champix is slanted to the benefit of Pfizer, the maker. In fact, this sort of "hype" is common when a medication first comes on the market.
Also, the successes were Pfizer funded, and included a high level of extra support to help the patient. It has been proposed that this may have been the key to the success, and that results could be quite different for patients who just receive a prescription for Champix and are left to stop on their own.
It is certainly worth discussing with your doctor. Practically any method that gets a smoker to quit is worth it. But keep in mind that this is still a relatively new drug. It seems to have gotten the usual "hype" that new drugs get, and all its effects are probably not known yet. Just remember the hype about drugs like VIOXX when they first came on the market. Nevertheless, with a realistic attitude, and with other support to help, it may be the answer for some to get them to quit smoking
